Topic: Medical Monitoring in Eating Disorder Care: Essential Insights for The Non-Medical Professional

Target Audience:

This rounds presentation is designed for “non-medically” trained clinicians (e.g., mental health professionals) who are providing eating disorder care or support and wish to better understand some of the medical implications that need to be considered within the service delivery.

Description of Event:

This training aims to provide foundational knowledge about how eating disorders impact the body’s systems (across the lifespan), and why medical monitoring is essential.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this training, participants should be able to:

• Describe the physiological impacts of an eating disorder on various body systems across the lifespan.
• Explain the necessity of consistent medical monitoring to ensure the best outcomes for patients with eating disorders.
• Give examples of the different types of medical emergencies patients may face and the appropriate interventions.
• Identify the critical role of interdisciplinary collaboration between medical providers and other team members in the care of eating disorder patients.
